about The Sister's House history ~
Simple Victorian elegance is yours at The Sisters' House Bed and
Breakfast Guest House. Owner Mary Bott invites you to make The
Sisters' House your home away from home.
The
house was built in 1910 as a private residence by Mary Flannigan, the
wife of a prominent area financier, Mike W. Flannigan. The Flannigan
family played an integral part in the early 1900 development of Stuart,
pioneering the branch banking concept used today in the banking industry.
St. Boniface Church purchased the house in 1920 and it became the St.
Boniface Convent in 1921.
For
the next 74 years, this beautiful house, with its spacious rooms, served
as home to over 100 religious women of the School Sisters of St. Francis.
Mary
and her husband purchased the house in 1995. Mary is a Nebraska native,
growing up in and around Stuart.
Many
renovation projects have been completed in the last 10 years since opening,
including the addition of 3 baths and a 1/2 bath, complete renovation
of the cellar providing additional guest rooms and the addition of a
deck on the south side to accommodate and camouflage the handicap accessible
entrance used for special events on the main floor.
Mary invites you to make our home YOUR home away from home! A "habit"
forming experience!
